$41.7 billion in the United States is reported abandoned,  Jackson Investigative Group uses sophisticated databases and experience to find the businesses, corporations, owners, or heirs of these reported assets.

Abandoned assets refers to accounts in financial institutions and companies that have had no activity generated or contact with the owner for a period of one year or longer.  Common forms of property include savings or checking accounts, stocks, uncashed dividends or payroll checks, refunds, traveler's checks, trust distributions, unredeemed money orders or gift certificates (in some states), insurance payments or refunds and life insurance policies, annuities, certificates of deposit, customer overpayments, utility security deposits, mineral royalty payments, and contents of safe deposit boxes.

Once our office correctly identifies and contacts the owners or heirs of these reported assets is only half the journey.  It then can become a very complex road to get these aged assets released to the identified owners in a timely manner; as it is required to then provide proof with specific documents, forms, court records, probate, affidavits and other complex documents depending on each situation which in each case is totally unique.

What happens to these accounts that have no activity?

Acting in the best interest of consumers, each state has enacted a property statute that protects your funds from reverting back to the company if you have lost contact with them.  Since it is impossible to store and maintain all of the contents that are turned over from the safe deposit boxes, most states hold periodic auctions and hold the funds obtained from the sale of the items for the owner.
